1872 - 1879 Issues The paper used by De La Rue during this period had a watermark consisting of a crown with the letters "CC" beneath. Sheets were occasionally fed into the press irregularly causing the watermark to appear either reversed, inverted, or reversed and inverted on individual stamps. The reversed watermarks occurred when sheet was loaded upside down. The inverted watermarks occurred when sheets were fed wrong end in. The much rarer inverted and reversed watermarks occurred when sheets were loaded upside down and wrong side in. All varieties are reported on each of the stamps of the 187201879 issues. |
