Lynchburg 5c Stationery Provisional #2


Forgery Type 2 (Lynchburg #2F2)

Maker unknown. This has been termed a "reprint" by some. I believe it to be a forgery as it is not from an original electrotype. Late state shows design at right shorn away.

Type 2 Forgery characteristics: Type 2 Forgery colors seen:

a. no small white flaw in outer oval of design at bottom directly above "I" of "PAID"
b. solid black line forms left upright of the numeral "5" - white vertical line to the left of this
c. no "PAID"

a. 5c carmine (shades)
b. 5c carmine on blue horizontal laid paper
c. 5c red on horizontal ruled paper

The late state of above type 

Type 2A Forgery characteristics: Type 2A Forgery colors seen:

a. no small white flaw in outer oval of design at bottom directly above "I" of "PAID"
b. solid black line forms left upright of the numeral "5" - white vertical line to the left of this
c. no "PAID"
d. oval at left partially shorn away
