Thompsons Express operated primarily between the Boston area and Albany, New York via Springfield, Massachusetts which was one of their principal offices. They carried a small amount of letter mail, usually letters that accompanied goods being transported. Charges for bills sent between their offices were generally around 10¢. |

This 10¢ paper scrip, with imprinted design that matches the envelope, was used in 1862 during the severe shortage of small coins. This example is also signed by E.H. Hubbard, the express agent in Springfield. |
